Tesla STUNS with delivery figures

Don’t look now, but Elon Musk is still winning.

Everyone is mad at him right now for limiting views on Twitter. And because everyone is on Twitter, everyone thinks they know the best way that website should be run.

But the real basis of Musk’s power is Tesla. And Tesla is crushing expectations right now.

Tesla reported 466,140 vehicle deliveries in the second quarter – an incredible 80% improvement over last year.

Production is up to 480,000 in the same period.

Ramping up production is a critical component of Tesla’s strategy because the company cut prices for the Model 3 and Model Y, starting a price war with the rest of the EV sector.

Taking on Chinese EV manufacturers was a risky move, but it appears to have paid off for Tesla.

Musk is trying to communicate stability when it comes to Tesla’s tactics.

(Meaning he’s doing the opposite compared to what he does with Twitter.)

“We’re not ‘starting a price war,’ we’re just lowering prices to enable affordability at scale,” he said.

Now, Tesla still faces major obstacles. In fact, I think that they are going to get trounced in China… and that’s assuming that Tesla can continue to straddle between China and the United States even as trade tensions build between the two powers.

But those who were predicting Tesla’s collapse are eating crow today.

It’s not happening.

The same is true for doomsayers about the United States.

Don’t miss Mr. X’s (rather cynical) case for American boosterism.

Despite it all, the best is still ahead.

Keep Moving,

WORD ON THE STREET

Indy Bombs, Tesla Booms, Borrowers Need To Pay Up

  • “Prepare To Meet Kali. In Hell!” – Man, who would have thought yet another virtue signaling woke movie deconstructing a legendary cinematic hero would fail? Having successfully gutted Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Disney are now destroying Indiana Jones with “Dial of Destiny,” the (hopefully) last installment in the franchise. Opening with just a $60 million North American and $130 million global box office, the film has a long road ahead if it is to earn back its estimated $250 million budget.
  • The Student Loan Payments Will Continue Until Morale Improves – The Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden’s plan for student loan forgiveness in a 6-3 ruling, arguing that the Department of Education does not have the constitutional authority to forgive this debt. As it stands, payments will need to restart in September.

President Biden says a “Plan B” is underway for debt relief, but it is expected to take months
  • TSLA Beats Wall Street Expectations – Surpassing expectations of 448,000 deliveries and 471,335 vehicles produced, Tesla delivered 466,140 vehicles and produced 479,700 vehicles in the second quarter. It’s the fifth quarter in a row where Tesla reported more vehicles produced than deliveries, as the company continues to accelerate production and cut prices.

  • UPS Struggles To Avoid Teamsters Strike – UPS and the Teamsters continue to negotiate as the company tries to avoid a strike. UPS has offered the Teamsters a significant pay increase, something the union has called an improvement but not enough. The deadline for an agreement is July 5 so the union will have time to gain approval from its members before July 31.

HOT SPOTS: What’s Going on in Geopolitics

  • Riots Continue In France – Anti-police riots continued for a fifth night in France. In one attack, the home of the mayor of L’Hay-les-Roses was rammed by a car, which then burst into flame. Authorities are investigating what they call attempted murder.
  • Port Workers In Western Canada Begin Strike – The International Longshore & Warehouse Union in Canada is on strike. The strike could jeopardize smooth operations at ports including Vancouver and Prince Rupert, possibly leading to a backlog of cargo.

  • Russia Attacks Kyiv For First Time Since Coup – Russia launched a drone attack on the Ukrainian capital for the first time since the Wagner Group’s attempted coup. All the Iranian-made Shahed drones were shot down, according to the Ukrainian government. The Ukrainian government claims that its counteroffensive is gaining ground on all fronts, though some Western analysts have suggested the counteroffensive is moving more slowly than anticipated. Ukraine is attempting to recapture the city of Bakhmut, which the Wagner Group secured a few weeks ago for Russia.

CUTTING EDGE: Whats Happening In Tech

  • Goldman Sachs Reported To Be Looking For Way Out Of Apple Card – The Apple Card has been a hit with many consumers, but not with Apple’s partner Goldman Sachs. The Wall Street Journal suggested that the investment bank is looking to ditch the deal and instead offload it to American Express. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, without naming specific programs, said earlier this year the bank was “considering strategic alternatives.”
  • Flying Car Approved By FAA – The good news – the FAA has given a special airworthiness certification to a fully electric flying car made by Alef Aeronautics. It boasts a flying range of 110 miles and can now be tested. The bad news – the estimated cost is $300,000.

  • Musk Limits Twitter Views, Chaos Ensues – In response to what he called “extreme levels of data scraping” and “system manipulation,” Elon Musk said Twitter users will only be able to read a certain number of posts per day. Many users found themselves getting messages that read “rate limit exceeded” or “cannot retrieve tweets.”

Musk said the limits were temporary, but verified accounts would get to read more messages

“God has a special providence for fools, drunkards, and the United States of America.”

It’s all falling apart right? America is going down. Just look at the cities, the subways, the politics…

Except it’s not. The economic figures tell a different story. And compared to the rest of the world, the good old US of A is still the shining city on a hill.

Mr. X has the cynic’s case for American optimism this Fourth of July. There’s plenty to be hopeful about… but don’t be blind to the dangers.
